![]() The ThinIMU
by Scinamics is a precision, full 6-axis inertial sensing unit,
featuring triple redundant acceleration sensors, 24 bit analog to
digital conversion, temperature compensation, optional 2-axis compass
and on board processing. It uses the most advanced MEMS technology to
achieve the thinnest possible package - only 9mm thin!
The unique slim-line and ultra small package allows for new applications where size matters. It is thin enough to be worn on the body, i.e. in full body motion capturing applications. The redundant acceleration sensors allow for better accuracy, and can be used to detect fast rotations beyond the range of the gyroscopes. The ThinIMU is also available in a smaller package (the MicroIMU, measuring a mere 30mm x 30mm x 8 mm), with non-redundant 3-axis acceleration sensor, and without the optional compass). Despite the small size, the ThinIMU samples at 24 bit resolution, to get the most out of the inertial sensors. There are even two spare 24bit input channels and two 10bit channels for external sensors like pressure or temperature. The onboard RISC processor can be used for preprocessing and filtering. Temperature and the internal reference voltages are monitored for calibration purposes. Data can be read out through a UART compatible serial interface, either raw, or temperature compensated. All that is available at an affordable price, only a fraction of what similar 6-axis IMUs usually cost.
